Lampworkers: Bead Causes *NEED* YOU! Can't Post

While their locations and specific niches may vary, all the Bead Causes have something in common -- they need special beads to make their charity work happen!

When working on your own creations, think about doing something different or special for the kids and others who need something to mark their next milestone. A few special beads (not with sharp edges or fragile bumps) at the end of your session, or to help you warm up, would do wonders for your karma. Even those beads that came out a bit less than perfect, could be special milestone markers for someone. We're all a little less than perfect, and we are all special.

Different programs have different needs. Some need beads of a certain color to mark specific milestones, or beads of a certain shape (heart, butterfly, flower, frog...) to complete the project.

Some beads mark happy milestones, successful therapy, remission, or in some cases, cure. Other beads mark less than happy milestones, and are for rememberance and moving on.

You can do your part, and make a big difference in people's lives, with a little thing like a bead.

We'll be keeping a list of programs and their needs, and hope they will participate, but for now, you can send your beads to the programs we have listed directly, or to us, and we'll pass them on. If you'd like some recognition, please include a short bio, or statement, and your website and/or address.

Also, there are some extension programs that have started recognizing the caregivers that have to make each day something special for these kids, and for siblings who may feel left out of the attention, or need to understand. These beads are different, and mark different milestones, but are equally as important. Sometimes to break the ice, a simple "What is this bead for" can start a dialogue that breaks down walls and barriers very quickly, and provides a common "safe" ground to walk on.

These are great programs, but they all need your support. They have no built in revenue streams, and the beads are given away when earned, not "sold." You don't buy the milestone beads, they are GIVEN.

Your contributions mean a lot, to a whole lot of kids.

(PS: We've focused on the kids here, but there are adult and teen programs too. Breast Cancer is another cause that has used all sorts of items to promote awareness. We like the Beads of Courage type programs best, since they are not commercial, and rely on donations, not sales or purchases of a product. When your heart strings are pulled, put a bead on them!)
